Man Held In Beating, BurlgaryPublished Wednesday, April 24, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesA Gurdon man is being held in the Clark County Jail facing charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threatening and burglary. These possible charges stem from an altercation which occurred at a party around 11: 30 Saturday night. According to Gurdon City Marshal David Childres, Herbert Bell, Jr., 20, of Gurdon, got into an altercation with Harold Dickens, 19, also of Gurdon, at the party. Dickens and two women left the party, going to his mother's home to pick up their children. They heard a shot outside the residence, Childres said. Then Bell opened the door and pointed a pistol at Dickens. According to Childres, Bell snapped the weapon several times, but it failed to fire. Dickens dove behind a counter for protection. However, his mother struggled with Bell and was knocked down. Dickens came from behind the counter to help his mother and was struck several times with the handgun. Bell turned himself in to the Gurdon Police Department about an hour later. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
