Curley Wolves Win At SAU

Published Wednesday, April 24, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Prescott Curley Wolves were finally able to overcome the Stamps Yellowjackets in the annual SAU Rip Powell Rider Relays on Tuesday of last week.

Division II of this meet was very limited in number of teams and both Prescott and Stamps were not in full force.

Slight injuries to certain athletes and limited events to keep fresh for the Merchants' Relays in Thursday kept the meet from being a typical match up for these two squads. Nevertheless the Wolves racked up enough points to finally outscore the Jackets.

"Stamps had defeated Prescott in the state indoor meet on March 1, the Leopard Relays in early March, the Hog Relays and Scrapper Relays in early April, so it was rewarding for our track and field athletes," coach Eddie Jackson said.

"We did have some good performances from some younger athletes, but the most notable event came at the end of the meet with the 4x400 man's relay. Prescott was the only Division II school left so we ran in Division I.

"Going into the race the Wolves had the best time in the state, but Texarkana ran well and our third runner, Rashad Johnson, was a little ill and we lost for the first time this year," Jackson continued, "but our time was stil the fourth best race ever run at PHS in this event.
