The Wolves opened by demolishing Delight 15-5 Wednesday, with the game called at the end of six because of the 10-run rule. Matt Wingfield picked up his second win of the season with three innings on the hill. He faced 19 batters, gave up four hits, allowed five runs and five walks. He also fanned four. Wingfield was replaced on the mound by Ben Jones, who finished the game. Jones faced 12, gave up two hits, two walks and struck out four. Silva opened the game with a double for the Bulldogs. From there, Montra Montgomery belted a double to drive Stockton in. Charlie Rockett connected with his first home run of the year to bring Montgomery in as well. Jamie Williams grounded out before Jason Webb belted a single. Wingfield singled, bringing Webb in. Ben Cowling went down swinging as did John Cornelius. The 'Dogs tied the game in the top of the second. The first three batters were given free passes to load the bags, before Gosset was fanned. Silva belted his second double of the game, driving in Slatton and Thomas. Teel singled Gentry and Silva across. Jackson grounded out and Eoff walked before Parish belted a grounder to end the frame. The Wolves took the lead for good in their half the inning. Fulks opened with a single. Stockton reached on an error and Montgomery was hit by a pitch. Rockett smashed a sacrifice fly to bring Fulks in. Williams hit into a fielder's choice, with Stockton being forced at third. Webb was fanned. Slatton reached on an error to start the third. Thomas flied out and Gentry doubled. Both were left as Gossett struck out and Silva was retired on a fly ball. Prescott put the game out of reach with a four run third. Wingfield and Cowling were issued walks. Cornelius drove Wigfield in with a double. Fulks reached on an error, which allowed Cowling to go home. Stockton also reached on a mistake, which brought Cornelius in. Montgomery flied out and Rockett went down on strikes. Williams and Webb walked, with Fulks scoring on the bases loaded free pass. Webb was picked off at first. Delight was able to get men on base in the fourth, but couldn't advance them past first. When the Wolves took the offensive in the bottom of the frame, it was three-up and three-down. The 'Dogs managed to get men on first and second by walks, but they were stranded as the three outs were all Ks. On the other hand, the Wolves padded their score by four in the frame. Jones and Stockton each reached on errors. Montgomery singled Jones home. Rockett walked to load the bases, but Stockton was picked off at third. Al Johnston flied out, but Montgomery scored on the sacrifice. Carlos Vanhook doubled Rockett in, and Barrett Yates reached on the third miscue of the inning by Delight. The error also allowed Vanhook to score. Cowling grounded out to stop the assault. Jackson's double was the lone bright spot for Delight in the top of the sixth, as Silva flied out, Teel was fanned and Eoff grounded out. The Wolves ended the game officially with one run in the sixth. Brian Vanhook was hit by a pitch. He went to second when Jones walked. Stockton's RBI double was the finishing touch as Vanhook scored. The Wolves junior varsity teams also beat Delight, with a 5-3 score. Stockton, Brent Jordan, Al Johnston, B. Vanhook and Shane Mowery all scored. Johnston ripped a four-bagger in the contest, while Wingfield and Tucker Baker also recorded hits. Friday afternoon, the Wolves hosted Nashville and fell 10-3, with Yates losing his first game of the season. Yates stayed on the mound the entire game, facing 39 batters, giving up 15 hits, 10 runs, four walks and fanning three. The Scrappers struck early, with three to open the game. Wilson and Henry singled before McGill walked to load the bases. Reeves got an easy RBI as he walked Wilson in. Martin belted a sacrifice fly to score Henry, and Fincher grounded out, but drove Henry home. Reed's fly out ended the inning. The Wolves responded with a pair in the bottom of the frame. Yates grounded out before Fulks walked. Jones followed with a ground out. Montgomery, however, got hold of one, driving it over the fence for his first homer of the year. Rockett went down swinging to end the inning. The Scrappers added two more in the top of the second. Three straight singles resulted in one run scoring, while Wilson scored on a McGill ground ball. Three of the four Wolves who went to bat in the bottom of the second were fanned. Cowling, however, drew a walk. Nashville sent four men to the batter's box in the top of the third, with three returning to the dugout. Martin's single was the lone offense of the frame. Prescott cut into the pumpkinhead's lead with a single run in the third. Yates was issued a free pass to first. He was replaced by courtesy runner Johnston, who stole second, but was picked off later. Fulks went down on strikes, which set up Jones' second round-tripper of the year. Montgomery singled and was stranded as Rockett was fanned. Nashville's offense wasn't finished, though. The Scrappers added two more in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. A double by Henry and homer by McGill led to the scoring. Three went to bat for Prescott, and three returned to the dugout with nothing to show for their efforts. There was still more offense to come from the Scrappers, as they added a pair in the top of the fifth. Prescott threatened in the bottom of the frame, with Wingfield taking over for Cornelius and drawing a walk. Yates' single advanced Cornelius. Yates was again replaced on the base paths by Johnston. Fulk's grounded into a fielder's choice with Wingfield being nailed at third. Jones flied out before Montgomery singled. Johnston was caught at home trying to score on Montgomery's one-bagger. Both teams put runners on in the sixth, but neither squad was able to push a man home. The Scrappers ended scoring in the top of the seventh when Reed scored on a Henry single. Yates and Fulks grounded out in the Wolves' half of the inning. Jones walked, but was left when Montgomery flied out. The Wolves will be in district tourney action in DeQueen as tournament play begins Saturday. However, when and who they play is yet to be announced.
