Dr. Gorman Named Co. Extension Agent

Dr. Charlotte Gorman has been named county Extension agent -- home economics leader for Nevada County with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. The appointment is effective May 1.

Currently Dr. Gorman is with the Extension service in Mississippi County.

She has a bachelors degree in home economics, a masters in home economics, a second masters in sociology and a doctorate in educational administration.

Her varied work experiences have included teaching in the public schools; serving as a county Extension home economist with Mississipi State University; teaching `social problems' at Ball State University; serving as the state Extension speciailist in public affairs with the University of Arkansas; and conducting research on `Rural Social Organization' and on `Needs, Wants and Characteristics of Homemakers.'

Her other experiences have included writing educational literature, conducting training for university faculty, conductiing teacher training workshops for secondary school teachers, appearing on radio and television, serving as an officer and committee chairman in various statewide organizations, conducting management seminars and workshops for universities, community colleges and business and industry groups.

Dr. Gorman is the auther of the book, The Frugal Mind, a book on resource management. She is the author of numerous education monographs.

In 1991, Dr. Gorman was selected as outstandng graduate by the Home Economics Alumni Assocation at Delta State University. She was recognized three years ago, when on July 10, 1993, Charlotte Gorman Day was proclaimed in Mississippi County.

Dr. Gorman lived in Botswana, Africa, for two and one-half years while her husband was serving as advisor to the ministry of agriculture. She assisted him in developing the long-term training curriculum for ministry staff.

She has traveled in Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Republic of South Africa, Egypt, Cyprus, England, France, Italy, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
