Cubs Finish Fourth In 7AA District Meet

The Prescott Cubs finished fourth overall in total team standings at the district 7AA track and field championships held last week in Nashville. De Queen's junior team dominated in all events to win the championship with 154 points.

Stamps finished as runner-up with 94 points, followed by Nashville with 89 points, Prescott 48 points, Fordyce 47 points, Junction City 26 points and Gurdon with 6 points.

Meet highlights for Prescott included a first place finish in the 3200-meter relay with the team of Calvin Flemons, Fred Hopson, Derrick Nolan and Johnathon McKelvey. The team posted a season's best time of 9:07.5. Beat a previously undefeated De Queen 3200-meter relay team.

Another first place finish in the 800-meter run by Johnathon McKelvey surprised everyone as he finished well ahead of the pack with a 2:09 effort. The 1600-meter relay team of Justin Jernigan, Fred Hopson, Calvin Flemons and Johnathon McKelvey posted a season best time of 3:43, but was edged out by De Queen at the finish line in a very exciting race.

Place finishers for the Cubs included:

Shot put: -- Jarrod Yates, third place with 43 feet and 11 inches.

Discus: -- Jarrod Yates, fourth place with 124 feet and four inches.

3200-meter relay: -- Team of C. Flemons, F. Hopson, P. Nolan and J. McKelvey with a season's best time of 9:07.5.

100 hurdles: -- Johnathon McKelvey, third place with 16.3 a perosnal record.

800-meter relay: -- Team of E. Glenn, J. McKelvey, F. Hopson and J. Jernigan, fourth place with a season's best time of 1:38.8.

800-meter run: -- Johnathon McKelvey, first place with a personal record time of 2:09.

1600-meter relay: -- Team of J. Jernigan, C. Flemons, F. Hopson, J. McKelvey, second place with a season's best time of 3:43.6.
