Area Students To Graduate From HSU

Henderson State University will confer approximately 300 degrees in the spring commencement ceremony Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. in Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.

According to C.B. Watterson, director of public affairs, in case of inclement weather there will be three ceremonies held in Arkansas Hall. The first ceremony will be at 10 a.m. for the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences; the second will be at 12 noon for the school of education; and the third will be at 2 p.m. for the school of business.

Masters candidates will walk with their respective school.

Don Wells, assistant professor of sociology/human services will provide the faculty charge for the ceremony and James Matthew Vines, political science major and magna cum laude graduate candidate from Rison, will deliver the student response. Music for the event will be provided by the Henderson State University symphonic band and concert choir.

Dr. Robert Houston, vice president of academic affairs; deans, Joe C. Wright, Ellis College of arts and sciences; Dr. Robert Fisher, school of business; Dr. Charles R. Green, school of education; and Dr. David Thomson, graduate school, will present the undergraduate and graduate students, respectively, with their diplomas. Dr. Charles D. Dunn, president of the university will confer the degrees.

Local graduates include Randall L. Blount and Debra L. Taylor of Delight; Terri L. Teel of Antoine; Mary W. Hoover, Heather D. Loe and Vivian A. Otwell (summa cum laude), all of Emmet; and Meredith L. Cox, Judy T. Cummings, Owen L. Davis Jr., Karen R. House, Sherry L. Kisselburg, Charity M. Loudermilk (summa cum laude), and Jeffrey J. Williams, all of Prescott.
