Lindsey Says He Can Knock Drugs Out Of The AreaPublished Wednesday, May 1, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneGeneral knowledge is what Themious Lindsey, candidate for Nevada County Sheriff, will bring to the post, if elected. Lindsey has no law enforcement experience. However, he believes he can "knock drugs out" of the area by doing exactly the opposite of what has been done to date. Lindsey said he plans to help the county and community go forward, if elected, and will work to put confidence back in the people. As it is, he said, people have no confidence in the government. He said, though, he would be the people's sheriff, if they see fit to elect him on May 21. Lindsey is of the Baptist faith and enjoys working on his farm. When he has time, he enjoys hunting and fishing. However, he has had little time for these hobbies since he retired last year and has spent the majority of his time cleaning up his farm in the Waterloo area. "I want to carry myself so people will have confidence in law enforcement," he said. "I would like to have a debate with the other candidates and let the voters decide." Lindsey said he hates drugs with a passion and will work to "knock them out." "A vote for me is a vote against drugs," he said. Lindsey said he would institute an equal hiring practice policy if elected, and wouldn't harass young people. "I love kids," he said. "I will work with them; take time and talk to them." He promised not to question juvenile offenders unless their parent(s) or guardian(s) were present. He also said he would strictly enforce the law.
