Hogue Wants To Serve City Residents

Published Wednesday, May 1, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Serving the people of Gurdon is Linda Gayle Hogue's goal if elected to the post of recorder/treasurer in the May 21 primary.

Hogue said she has experience working with the public and in applying for grants. "I'd like the opportunity to serve the people of Gurdon," she said. "I will work to fulfill the duties of office and would like to represent the people and promote Gurdon."

She is a lifelong resident of Gurdon, graduating from Gurdon High School and Henderson State University.

Currently, she is employed by OSCAR Computer Software in Arkadelphia.

However, Hogue wants to return to her hometown to work with the public.

She has donated hundreds of hours of volunteer service. In fact, as a member of the Gurdon Library Board, she helped get a new library built in the city and donated it to Gurdon debt free. Hogue is also a member of the Tri- Lakes Regional Library Board in Hot Springs and is chairperson of the Clark County Library Board.

Hogue has also done volunteer work with Beech Street Baptist Church, where she and her family are members. She was a Vacation Bible School director for five years.

In years past, Hogue organized and executed the Mothers March of Dimes Campaign in Gurdon.

She coached an Odyssey of the Mind team in 1995 for the Gurdon schools as well.

"I have learned first hand one person cannot take on such undertakings (as getting a new library built) and make it work," she said. "It takes many, many people pulling together to accomplish such feats."

Hogue and her husband, Jimmy, have two children, Whitney, an eighth grader at GMS, and Jessie, a first grader at GPS.

If elected, Hogue said she would keep records and report on the council meetings. Additionally, she said she would work on grants for the city.

Hogue also worked to get Gurdon's City Park located where it currently is as a volunteer.

The Hogue family enjoys camping and travel.
