Loses All Credit For School Year

Published Wednesday, May 8, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

A Gurdon High School student has been suspended for the remainder of the year after voiding his bladder in a glass of tea a teacher was drinking.

In a special called meeting of the Gurdon School Board Monday night at the Cabe Student Center, it was recommended by GHS Principal Leonard Gills the student also lose all credit and not be allowed to take any courses offered by this instructor again.

About 30 people were on hand for the meeting, including two deputies with the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Board President Charles Ledbetter called the meeting to order shortly after 7 p.m.

Gurdon Superintendent Bobby Smithson then gave the student's parents the choice of having the meeting open or closed. They chose to close the meeting.

The audience was ushered to the GHS media center in the midst of a downpour.

Most of those present were instructors on hand to show their support for the teacher who was victimized in the case.

Apparently, the instructor had a glass of tea in her room and left the area for a few minutes. During this time, the student reportedly urinated in the glass.

The incident and offender were quickly discovered.

The closed session lasted about 30 minutes before Ledbetter, Miles McKenzie, Tommy Overbee and Jesse Runyan returned and followed Gills' recommendation.
