Forgery Charges Are FiredPublished Wednesday, May 8, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneGary D. Cunningham, 33, of Gurdon has been charged on nine counts of second degree forgery. According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the NCSO and Prescott Police Department, the arrest was made Friday, May 3 by members of the PPD on a failure to comply warrant. Further investigation showed Cunningham to be involved with the forgeries. Westmoreland said the case has been investigated since Oct. 1995, when area merchants were hit with nine forged checks on nine different accounts, for $376. He said Cunningham was a suspect early on, but could not be found. Prescott Police Chief Willie Latin stopped a vehicle with Cunningham inside several months ago, but the suspect fled. Second degree forgery is a class C felony carrying a possible sentence of 10 years in prison for each count. Cunningham made his first appearance in court Monday, May 6.
