Emmet Graduation Is Set For Next Thursday

Gary Faulkner, the 18-year-old son of Frank and Jan Faulkner and Cathy Hickey has been named valedictorian of Emmet High School.

Faulkner was a four-year starter for the Emmet senior boys basektball team. He was also a member of the gifted and talented program, voted most outstanding senior and was in Who's Who Among American High School Students.

He plans to attend Red River Vo-Tech to get his basics and then transfer to Southern Arkansas Unviersity to major in biology or wildlife management.

Casey L. Purtle, the 17-year-old daughter of Kirk and Pamela Johnson of Texarkana, and Rick and Faye Purtle of Hope, and the granddaughter of Bennie Purtle and Alta Bennett of Sutton, and Twyla and William J. Arnett of Emmet, has been named salutatorian of Emmet High School.

Purtle is an active member of the Library Club and the gifted and talented program. She is also a co-editor of the EHS yearbook, EHS cheerleader co-captain, and vice president of the senior class.

She is an honor roll student, and has been selected to appear in Who's Who of American High School Students. She was selected by her cheerleading sponsor to be awarded a National Achievement Academy Cheerleading Award.

She is employed by Ed Burke Enterprises. She has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship to Red River Technical College and Arkansas State University. After graduation, Casey plans to attend summer classes at Red River Technical College and, in the fall, transfer to Arkansas State University. Her proposed major is premedicine. She plans to one day attend UAMS to become a cardiologist.

Baccalaureate will be Sunday, May 12, at 2:30 p.m. in the Emmet School cafetorium. Bro. Joy Callicutt, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Emmet, will be the speaker.

Commencement will be Thursday evening, May 16, at 8:00 in the Emmet School cafetorium. David Combs, a former high school principal and now a principal at Delight High School, will be the speaker.
