Published Wednesday, May 15, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Recently, Westmoreland spoke to the senior sociology class at Prescott High School on the topic of law enforcement in Prescott and Nevada County.

He told the seniors of the different agencies available in the area, as well as giving them an overview as to how patrols are done.

The students were also informed on the subjects of probable cause and search and seizure, as well as how investigations are made.

They were told how crime scenes need to be processed and preserved, and of the many different types of evidence used.

How suspects are questions was also addressed by Westmoreland, who told the students of the Miranda Act, the various types of arrests, court appearances and how special operations, such as warranted raids are done.

"I appreciate the opportunity to speak to these students," he said. "I just regret not having enough time to cover all the information I wanted to cover."
