CITIZEN SCAMMEDPublished Wednesday, May 15, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneAn elderly Prescott woman was the victim of a scam Friday afternoon. Westmoreland said she was approached by two white males at her home, who were allegedly selling floor covering. She allowed them into her house. While one distracted her, the other apparently took her purse, containing about $850 in cash. Investigation into the scam showed the woman's phone line had been cut. PPD Sgt. Walt DeYoung and officer Joey Grayson were the first officers on the scene. The suspects were last seen in a blue long wheel base Chevrolet pickup with gold trim. "I caution everyone to be aware of scam artists," Westmoreland said. "They especially like to prey on older victims. "The public needs to do all it can to increase personal security. "If you have any questions about someone in your neighborhood, call the NCSO or PPD and let us check it out. You can help us help you," he said.
