Wolves and Wolverettes Enter Decathlon And Pentathlon At Cabot

Published Wednesday, May 15, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Prescott will once again be well represented in the annual decathlon and pentathlon. The two-day ten-grueling event competition will be held at Cabot.

The Wolverettes will enter Jessica Hildebrand, who competed very well last year, should be stronger in some events this year. The meet is being held on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Wolves will enter two athletes who have no previous experience in this competition, but if they can perform consistently they should have a good two-day score. "Our track and field program is fortunate to have other athletes who are interested and could compete well, but the rules limit each school to only two per team," coach Eddie Jackson said.

John Cornelius has been a consistent point-getting team performer since he moved up in the ninth grade and he certainly deserves a chance to compete as an individual. John's time in the 100, 400 and 1600 should offset his weaker events, the shot and discus. His ankle will limit his long and triple jump, but he should be consistent in the high jump.

Cedric Flemons, a junior, should be a little more accustomed to the field events, because he entered most of them during the regular season. He is strong enough for the weight events, scored well in the high jump and long jump, has run with the hurdles and 400 and is tough enough for the 1600.

Results from the men's and women's competition will be in next week's Picayune.
