Autumn Leamons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Leamons of Gurdon, was recently named winner of the 1996 Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award.

The award, sponsored nationwide by Dekalb Genetics Corporation, is presented to the outstanding senior, agricultural student demonstrating superior scholarship, leadership and agricultural experiences.

Leamons attends Gurdon High School, where she has been treasurer of FFA, FBLA, Art club and Student Council. Her agricultural program consists of swine showing and forestry judging. Following graduation, she plans to attend Red River Technical College in Hope.

As this year's winner, Leamons receives a lapel pin and certificate, and her name will be inscribed on a special plaque displayed in the agri building. The Dekalb Award, often considered the highest honor an agricultural student can receive on the local level, is presented at nearly 3,000 schools annually.

A long time supporter of youth activities, Dekalb has presented Ag Accomplishment awards since 1947. In addition, the company sponsors college scholarships for aggriculture students pursuing specific careers.

Based in DeKalb, Ill., Dekalb Genetics Corporation is an international researcher, producer and marketer of corn, sorghum, soybeans, alfalfa and sunflower seeds.
