Two Join ArmyPublished Wednesday, May 22, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesJoseph C. Gradstaff and Davis D. Lamm have joined the United States Army under the delayed enlistment program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Hot Springs. The delayed enlistment program gives young men or women the opportunity to delay enlistment into the army for up to one year before reporting to basic military training. The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and to become eligible to receive as much as $30,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career sjpecialty. Grandstaff and Lamm are both seniors at Gurdon High School. Grandstaff will report to Fort Sill, Okla., for military basic training August 7. Lamm will report to Ft. Knox, Ky., August 9. He is the son of Michael L. Grandstaff and Debra G. McDaniel of Gurdon.
