South Clark Co. Jaycees HonoredPublished Wednesday, May 22, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe Arkansas Jaycees held its year-end and fourth quarter awards banquet in Hot Springs the weekend of May 17-19. The South Clark County Jaycees received many accolades. At the fourth quarter awards luncheon, the chapter received in the area of project judging: the Prescott-Nevada County Jaycees extension placed second; pee wee athletics, a project setup as a statewide project to promote sports to kids, placed second; and the headstart project placed first. In the area of individual awards were Mary Smith, who was ranked as the number two membership development vice president for the fourth quarter; Sharon Mross was ranked at the number three state director for the fourth quarter; Kenneth Harper was ranked as the number three president for the fourth quarter; and the chapter was ranked as numbaer four in the state for the fourth quarter. At the year-end awards banquet, the chapter received in the area of project judging, the headstart playground placed second and the springfest placed second. Individual awards received were: the South Clark County Jaycees was ranked number seven chapter of year; Sharon Mross was ranked number four state director of the year, Mary Smith was ranked number two membership development vice president of the year; and Kenneth Harper was ranked as number three president of the year. While attending Friday night's region four elections, Harper, as the outgoing president of the South Clark County Jaycees for the past three years, was elected as the regional director for Region Four. Region Four consists of 11 Jaycee Chapters in 20 counties in the southwest section of the state. The regional director's duties include training of local officers and working with the chapter to build a lasting relationship with their chapter and community. Local elections are June 6 at 7:00 p.m. for the South Clark County Jaycee Club. The elections will be held in Gurdon Municipal Building. All members are to vote.
