Vo-Tech Funding OK'd

Funding has been approved by the Arkansas Vocational and Technical Education division for the Job Training Partnership Act at Garland County Community College, according to Ron Garner, GCCC Dean of Students. The program receives one-half of its funding from the Arkansas Vocational and Technical Education Division, and the remaining match is provided by the college.

The program is aimed toward preparing JTPA certified participants for employment. It provides lifelong learning activities, career development, assessment, counseling, and employability skills training to JTPA eligible participants who have been certified eligible and referred by the West Central Arkansas Planning and Development District. The services are designed to enhance an individual's knowledge and skills, and result in increasing their employment and earnings.

Objectives of GCCC are to served at least 50 JTPA students at the College and Quapaw Technical Institute during the 1996-97 academic year with no less than 75 percent completion rate for all students. The program will provide 20 hours of instruction in career development, decision making and information pertinent to employment to each participant, as well as 20 hours of academic guidance, personal counseling, and assessment for JTPA paraticipants.
