Potlatch Awards 17 Scholarships In State

The Potlatch Foundation for Higher Education announced its award of 17 college scholarships to Arkansas high school graduates. The renewable four-year scholarships, worth $1,400 a year, have a potential value of $5,600 over four years.

More than 181 Arkansans applied for the 17 scholarships awarded for 1996.

The recipients include Temekis Hampton and Laura Thornton of Hermitage; Bridgette Bass, Brooke Bradford and Bobby Harton of Warren; Tiffany Franklin and Terrence Traczewitz of Prescott; DeJaun Daniel, Arkansas City; Rebecca Pittillo, Delta; William Torrence, Dermott; Jason Cater, Drew Central; Bettina Davis, Dumas; Esther Crain, Lakeside; Geneva (Ginny) Garison, Clifton Jackson III and Christopher Sims, McGehee; and Jason Herring, Monticello.

The Potlatch Scholarship program, established in 1952, has provided over 2,000 students in Arkansas, Minnesota and Idaho with scholarship money to seek a college education.

In 1997, 60 Arkansans will pursue their college education through the Potlatch Foundation for Higher Education totaling $84,000 in scholarship money.

Potlatch Corporation, a diversified forest products company, owns more than 500,000 acres of timberland in Arkansas and has operations in Warren, McGehee and Prescott.
