Remainder Of School Year Calendar Given

Published Wednesday, May 22, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Decision time is here. Not necessarily decisions of the seniors, but for the seniors. Graduation time is at 7:00 p.m. Friday on the football field, come rain or shine.

In fact, other programs this year are on the football field, even though it would have been better to have them on the inside. But, due to the high school auditorium being ruined in the fire a few weeks ago, the football field is the decision made for the seniors.

There are no alternate plans in case of rain Friday night for graduation, according to Donald Crain, the high school counselor. "We'll just have to wait it out or open an umbrella and keep passing out those diplomas," he wrote in his article for last week that did not get called up from the computer.

Usually graduation is moved inside if it rains.

Most are aware that the gymnasium presently contains four English classrooms and, thus, cannot be used for the awards program. That, too will be held on the athletic field, as will Senior Class Day activites.

Here is what's happening the rest of the week:

At 8:30 Thursday morning the annual senior breakfast will be held. At 9:40 the Awards Day progrom will begin in the stadium. At 1:30 p.m. the Senior Class Day practice will be held.

On Thursday night at 6:00 in the middle school cafetorium the band banquet will be held, and at 7:00 the band awards will be handed out.

Friday at 9:00 a.m. seniors will report for class day, and at 9:40 Senior Class Day activities will take place in the stadium. The seniors will have graduation practice at 1:00 Friday afternoon. At 6:30 the seniors will report to the agri building preceding the graduation ceremonies, which take place at 7:00.

Here are some other events that will have happened by the time the Picayune hits the streets this week:

  • May 20, senior test make-up day was available; and the Kiwanis Honor Banquet was held Monday night.
  • May 21, the spring sports awards were handed out Tuesday night in the elementary cafeteria.
For the rest of the school the public is reminded that the junior class play did not get presented on time this year due to the fire and it will be done next week. Here are the events for next week:
  • May 28, final tests (periods 3 and 4).
  • May 29, final tests (periods 1 and 2).
  • May 30, final test make-ups.
  • May 31, 7:00 p.m. the junior class play will be presented.

These events and dates and times were re-written from Mr. Crain's column meant to run May 15.
