Cancer Society Meets

Over 100 volunteer crusaders went door to door in Nevada County to put the American Cancer Society over its goal in the annual fund drive,

Lanora Dalrymple announced Thursday at the ACS meeting at First United Methodist Church. A total of $10,272.98 were given to exceed the $10,000 goal.

Phyllis Stewart, president, heard reports of visits, memorials and activities planned locally.

A Breast Cancer Awareness stamp will go on sale June 17.

Scootie DeLamar, Reach to Recovery chairman, reported one visit to a breast cancer patient; she urged the public to become aware of the free services offered by ACS, upon recommendation of the physician.

Arkansas Survivor's Day was noted May 17 by Governor Jim Guy Tucker, and National Survivors Day will be celebrated June 2 to honor those who have survived cancer. Children's cancer camp will be held at Camp Aldersgate August 4 through 9. Prescott Country Club will host the annual golf tournament August 10 with volunteers serving refreshments and lunch and awarding prizes.

Anice Ward anounced that $60 was received in April in memorials.

Gena Davis, area representative, explained statewide services.

Patsy Womble gave the minutes of the last meeting. The next meeting will be held July 18 at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Prescott.
