Awards Given At NHS

Special honor program awards were given at the awards ceremony at Nevada High School on May 10. The awards and the winners follow.

Navy honors program: Kelli Brazell, Hagan Barnes, Wes McKamie, Shaun McKamie, Susan Divine, Pedro Garcia, Melissa Almand, Laurie Herring, Krista Niemeyer, Lindsay Walthall, Amie Williams, Joanie Bailey, Crystal Lowe, Krista Patton, Toney Key and Julie Clements.

President's award for educational excellence: Justin Curtis, Melissa Niemeyer, Melanie Williams, Brenisha Young, Kelli Brazell and Wes McKamie.

President's award for educational improvement: Chris LaRue, Jessica Miller, Sylvia Miller, Crystal Moss, Jessica Carey, Lashalla Dillard, Jeffrey Taylor, Lacey Pipkin, Dionne Williams, Carlesha Mixon, Hagan Barnes, Chala Divine, Matt Holt, Shaun McKamie, Jonathan Russell and Linda Taylor.

Hugh O'Brian leadership award: Tamla Allen.

VFW patriotic art contest winners: Cody Carlton, first place $100; Sharona Billiot, second place $75; and Kelli Brazell, third place $50.

VFW voice of democracy speech/script writing contest winners: Lindsay Walthall, first place $100; Kristi Patton and Amie Williams, second place, $50 each; honorable mention, Naaman Moss, Laurie Herring, Crystal Lowe, Shaun McKamie and Ricardo Young.

VFW patriotic essay contest: Leslie Walthall, local first place $100 and district first place $100; Chasity Reeves, second place $75; and Justin House, third place $50.

Teacher of the year award: For the second year in a row, the student body voted James Hastings as teacheor of the year.
