Carolyn Palmer Retires

Published Wednesday, June 5, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Carolyn Palmer, mail carrier of rural route five, retired on May 31 with more than 30 years of government service.

Beginning her career in 1955 as a Civil Service clerk-typist for the U.S. Air Force at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, La., Mrs. Palmer was promoted to secretary for the director of operations and shortly thereafter became secretary to the senior-ranking commander at England AFB, a position she held from several years.

Returning to Prescott some 11 years later when her husband's (John) job moved him to this area, she took a respite from her career until she had an opportunity to work for the U.S. Postal Service.

Palmer has carried all five of the rural routes out of the Prescott Post Office, either as a substitute or regular carrier.

Looking forward to the leisure activities retirement offers, Palmer states that one of the most rewarding parts of a mail carrier's job is the opportunity it affords to become acquainted with so many interesting, colorful and truly wonderful people of a community.
