Malone Graduates

Rachel Ann Malone is a recent graduate of Pocahontas High School. Malone is the daughter of John and Sally Malone, and the granddaughter of Leonard nad Faye Black of Waldo and John Malone of Lovington, N.M.

Malone plans to attend the University of Mississippi, where she has been awarded a renewable Vocal Performance Scholarship. She was also the recipient of a Pochahontas Rotary Club Scholarship, the Randolph County Leadership Development Committee, `Leaders Only' Scholarship, and was selected by the PHS faculty to receive the Pocahonatas Education Association Citizenship Award.

She was honored by being named the recipient of the "Semper Fidelis" Award for outstanding loyalty and service to her high school band.

As a senior she was co-editor of the PHS Smoke Signal, the student newspaper. She also served on the flag corps, and was a member of the Leo Club and PRIDE, the drug-free student organization. She was appointed by the governor to serve as a youth commissioner on the Governor's Commision for Prevention of Violence.

Malone also received the `Gift of Self' Award from TONE for her service as a leader of drug-free youth in northeast Arkansas.

She attended Arkansas Girls State in 1995. She is active in the United Methodist Church and has served as UMY president for two years, played handbells and sang in the chancel choir. She was also a member of the Northeast Arkansas Chorale for three years.

Prior to starting college, she will spend 10 days in Spain as a part of a student tour.
