Football Camp Scheduled For July 9-11 at PHSPublished Wednesday, June 12, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe annual Southwest Arkansas Football Camp will be held July 9-11 at Prescott High School. The staff includes coaches Eddie Jackson of Presoctt, John Pace of Gurdon and Gary Segrest of Hot Springs Lakeside. According to Jackson, 65 years of football experience will be provided by these coaches. Usually, some college players also provide some assistance. The camp will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday of that week. Athletes in grades 7 through 12 may attend the camp. The cost is $45 per student. An athlete should contact any of the three coaches if he is interested in participating. In addition to teaching the atletes about nutritiion and a drug free body program the coaches will also teach the following postions. Quarterbacks -- The coaches will will teach stance, center exchange, ball handling, faking, footwork, passing release, follow through, play calling and leadership for quarterbacks. Running backs -- Stance, ball handling, faking, ball carrying, running, blocking and pass receiving. Offensive line -- Stance, starts, blocking techniques and pass protection. Ends and flankers -- Stance, running, pass patterns, pass catching and blocking. Defensive line -- Stance, pursuit, blow delivery, alignment, reading offensive keys, pass rush and gap responsibility. Linebackers -- Stance, alignment, pursuit, pass coverage and run responsibilities. Secondary -- Stance, alignment, pass coverage, interceptions, reads and footwork. Special teams -- Deep snappers, punting, place kicking, kick-off return and catching kicks. Weight training -- Proper lifting techniques, strength and weight development, safety in the weight room, use of weight belts and use of free weights.
