Clark Co. Fair Queen Pageant Set; Entry Deadline Is Aug. 21Published Wednesday, June 12, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe 1996 Clark County Fair Queen and Little Miss Pageant will be held at Arkansas Hall on the campus of Henderson State University on Monday, September 9. Plans have been made by Louise Atha, chairman of the Fair Queen committee of the Extension Homemakers Clubs, sponsors of the event. Young ladies and little girls of Clark County are urged to enter the competition. Fair Queen entrants must be 16, but not over 21, never married and with no children. Little Miss contestants must be age four through six, and not yet enrolled in first grade. Contestants should have been full time residents of Clark County for the past year. Each contestant must be sponsored by a business, club, organization or individual, and will participate in the fair parade. Application forms and information sheets are available at the Clark County Extension Office at 423 Clay in Arkadelphia; at main office and branches of all banks in Arkadelphia, Amity and Gurdon; and at the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Application forms, including a $10 entry fee and a snapshot, must be turned in to the Extension office by noon on August 21. No late applications will be accepted. Competition will be limited to the first 20 applicants in each event. Fair Queen contestants will be interviewed, and will model one-piece swimsuits and evening wear. Little Miss contestants will wear short dresses. Winners will compete in district competition at Hope in September. The Fair Queen may enter state competition at Little Rock. Both will participate in various county activities throughout the year. Trophies and prizes will be awarded for the top three Fair Queen contest winners.
