Football FactsPublished Wednesday, June 19, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneEditor's note: This is the second of a 12-part series of a column by Prescott High School football coach Eddie Jackson. The articles will deal with information on the upcoming football season as well as a look back at some facts and stats about Curley Wolf football from the last 25 years. These statistics came from the post-season booklet prepared for each player. COMING EVENTS: Today, Wednesday, June 19, bus departs at 4:47 for first round of "Air it Out' summer passing league; forms for the Southwest Arkansas Camp are due; Monday-Tuesday equipment issue. COACH'S CORNER: The first event for 1996 football will get underway next Wednesday, June 26, when the Wolves will travel to Lakeside for round one of the summer passing league. Players interested in competing should come by the field house to check out equipment and to be prepared to load the bus by 4:45. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: This week Rashad Johnson, wide receivier and defensive back, is in the spotlight. He had a great year as a junior and more is expected of him on both sides his senior year; plus he is a great kick returner. '96 FOOTBALL COUNCIL: Representatives to the 1996 football council from the 11th grade are Al Johnston (quarterback-defensive back) and Carlos Vanhook (fullback-linebacker). '96 SCHEDULE, SCOUT REPORT: After the maroon-white scrimmage game, the Wolves will scrimmage the Lakeside Rams. This will be held on August 29 or 30. This game has been held at Prescott for three years so we will probably travel to Lakeside this year. The site will be determined at a later date. WORD OF THE WEEK: Strength -- toughness; durability; power; the quality of being physically, morally and intellectually powerful. THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: A football player has to be strong. Your opponent may have similar skills, speed and conditioning, but if you are significantly stronger you will be superior in the field.
