National Award Winner Is Named

Tonya Janelle Stinson, a recent graduate of South San Antonio (Texas) High School West Campus, was named a United States National Award winner in science. A prestigious honor, the United States Achievement Academy recognizes less than 10 percent of all American high school students. She will appear in the official collegiate yearbook, which is published nationally.

The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a teacher.

She is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. K. Laverne Stinson, formerly of Prescott, and the granddaugher of Rev. Mrs. Betty Stinson and the late Vernie Stinson of Prescott and Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson of North Little Rock.

Grandma Stinson and her Uncle Ray from Ann Arbor, Mich., joined the Jacksons and other relatives for the graduation festivities May 29.

She will attend Southern Nazarene University for the fall semester.
