12-Year-Old Victim in Van AccidentPublished Wednesday, June 26, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneA 12-year-old Prescott girl was killed in a one-vehicle accident Thursday, June 20. According to reports from the Arkansas State Police, Debra D. Mattison was riding in a 1994 Ford Aerostar, driven by her mother, Kathy A. Mattison, 32, of Prescott. They were traveling north on Highway 299 at 10 a.m. when the vehicle went off the northeast side of the road and hit a brush pile. At the time of the accident, the girl was drinking a soft drink from a glass bottle. The bottle shattered and cut her neck. She was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas, where she died. The accident was investigated by ASP Trooper Jana Cordes.
