4-H Forestry Team Fares WellPublished Wednesday, June 26, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe Clark County 4-H Junior Forestry team won every event at the state contest recently. The team members are Cassie Lynn of Okolona; Dustin Thomason, Amanda Thomason, Chad Thompson, and Jordan Haltom all of Arkadelphiia; and Ashley Webb of Curtis. The team placed first in every event, which includes tree identification (the members have to be able to identify 60 native Arkansas trees); tree measurement (how much volume in a group of trees); compass traverse and pacing; forestry quiz (a written test on Arkansas forestry facts); insect and disease identification; and forest evaluation (making a recommendation to a land owner for a forest plot). Cassie Lynn was first place high point individaul overall and Dustin Thomason was third place high point individual overall. The senior team completed well, finishing third place in compass traverse and pacing; and in insect and disease identification. The senior team members are Leah Lynn of Okolona and Jacob Harrington, Justin Thomason and John Michael all of Arkadelphia. Anyone interested in Joining a 4-H club should contact Clark County Extension office at 246-2281. 4-H is the youth development program of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and is open to all boys and girls, nine to nineteen years of age.
