Davidson Campmeeting Scheduled

Published Wednesday, July 3, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Davidson campmeeting will be conducted July 26 through August 4 at Davidson Campground near Hollywood.

A pre-campmeeting prayer service will be held Thursday, July 25, at 8:30 p.m. Rev. Darrell Bridges will lead this come-as-you-are service, which always helps to get the meeting off to a good start.

Services during the meeting will be held each day at 11:00 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. This year's evangelist will be Rev. Paul DuBar, pastor of Camden Fairview-Rushing Memorial United Methodist Churches. Paul Shuffield will be the songleader with Billie Jean Miller as pianist. Special music will be provided each evening.

The daily schedule also includes special activities. A young children's time as well as an older's children's time will be led by Jackie Hill; Lorie Calley will be the coordinator of afternoon crafts for children; and Steve Patterson will lead those in young activities.

The meeting will close with a memorial service on Sunday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. David Morre, pastor of Stephens United Methodist Church, will lead the memorial service.

Campmeeting originated as a time of "coming together" in late summer when the crops were "laid by" for prayer, praise, worship, singing and fellowship.

Although many things have changed since its beginning, the campmeeting spirit at Davidson Campground remains.

The campground's focal point is the large open-air tabernacle with 88 wooden cabins forming a square around the tabernacle. Also, two trailer parks have been built to accomadate those in motor homes and trailers.

Many modern convenieces have been added over the years.

A love feast will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1. This service will be conducted by Ernestine Clark and Charlotte Hunter.

Each evening persons from all the surrounding areas join the campers for worship. The camp is located approximately 12 miles west of Arkadelphia off Highway 26.
