Football FactsPublished Wednesday, July 10, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneEditor's note: This is the fifth of a 12-part series of a column by Prescott High School football coach Eddie Jackson. The articles will deal with information on the upcoming football season as well as a look back at some facts and stats about Curley Wolf football from the last 25 years. These statistics came from the post-season booklet prepared for each player. COMING EVENTS: Today, Wednesday, July 10, round three of the summer passing league -- scheduled at Malvern. July 12-13, senior combine at the University of Arkansas. July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and Aug. 1, summer weight workouts. July 17, round four of 7-7 at Prescott. COACH'S CORNER: Our 1996 candidates will be reporting for their workouts on Tuesday and Thursday night at 7. We are hosting the annual Southwest Football Camp this week. Our Wolves Youth Camp has been moved to later in August in order to help young men prepare for their flag football season, coming in September. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Channing Butler, wr/db had a great season in 1995 on offense and defense. He had another great spring, making All-State in track and field. We will be depending on Channing on both sides of the ball as he enters his senior year. '96 SCHEDULE, SCOUT REPORT: In Week No. 3, the Wolves will host another Highway 67 rival opponent when the Gurdon Go-Devils come to town. Gurdon graduated some very good football players, but will return the nucleus of another good team. This won't be a conference showdown game like it has been in recent years, but when Prescott and Gurdon hook up, it will always be a battle. WORD OF THE WEEK: Discipline -- training intended to produce a specified character, state of order, or pattern of behavior. Will the Curley Wolves show more discipine than the Go-Devils on Sept. 20. THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Discipline is the key to being successful. We all get 24 hours each day and seven days a week. It is equal for everyone. What we do with those 24 hours a day and seven days a week is up to us. RECORD SECTION: If anyone sees something that needs correcting please call the PHS football office at 887-3661. SUPPORT STAFF: A very key job for Friday night football is the video cameraman. We are so fortunate at Prescott to have Mr. Barry Higginbotham because we know when the coaches go in Saturday morning we will have a quality film to grade. He inherited the job from his father, Bob Higginbotham, who did such a great job for many years along with Mr. Jim McKenzie. Going back to the days before video, Mr. Bill Freeman did a super job with the old 16 mm film. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
