McKinnon Winner At ShowPublished Wednesday, July 17, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesKelly Jo Beth McKinnon of Gurdon came home a winner at the National Junior Maine-Anjou Show. The annual event was held June 17-23 in Wichita, Kansas, and drew over 166 contestants from 16 states. McKinnon was the second place competitor in the salesmanship contest and fifth place winner in the speech contest of the intermediate division. The event was hosted by the American Maine-Anjou Association and the Kansas Maine-Anjou Association. Patricipants competed in speech contests, quiz bowls, salesmanship and showmanship contests in addition to a Prospect and Progress Steer Show, Maine-Influenced Heifer Show, Maine High Percentagae Show and a Bred and Owned High Percentage Heifer Show. The educational contests were divided into three categories of junior, intermediate and senior divisions. Fun events for the contestants and their families included a fun night, mixer and dance, cowboy supper and entertainment by a cowboy poet and an awards banquet.
