GPD Arrests Five For Burglary Of Business

Published Wednesday, July 17, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

A Gurdon man was arrested for kidnapping during the July 4 holiday.

According to reports from the Gurdon Police Department, officer Chris Harper received a call concerning a kidnapping around 6 p.m. from the victim's husband, Corey Lacy.

Lacy told Harper his wife had been sitting in her car at her sister's house when the suspect, Harry Rogers, drove up, pulled her out of the car and forced her into his vehicle, a green Ford Escort.

Witnesses to the incident informed Harper the suspect may have headed in the direction of Arkadelphia. The officer notified the Arkansas State Police and the Clark County Sheriff's Office in the matter, and began searching for the suspect.

He was returning to the Lacy home to speak further with her husband when he saw the suspect's vehicle on Highway 53 heading south and began following.

However, Harper lost the Rogers vehicle and drove north on Old Whelen Road to South Street where he found the victim on the corner of South and 3rd.

Witnesses said they had forced the suspect to stop his car and the victim was able to get out of the car, with Rogers leaving the scene.

Harper, according to the report, went to the victim's sister's home for more information when he got a call from the victim's mother with a location of the suspect.

Harper and a CCSO deputy then went and made the arrest.

Rogers was charged with kidnapping in the case.
