Potlatch Announces New StructurePublished Wednesday, July 17, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayunePotlatch Corporation's Resource Department in Arkansas has announced a new organizational structure that is expected to result in better forest management and more efficient log and fiber supply to its Arkansas operations, according to Robin Jolley, resource manager. The resource department is responsible for forest management of some 500,000 acres of timberland the company owns in Arkansas and procurement and supply of logs and fiber for Potlatch's four manufacturing facilities in the state. These include pine and hardwood lumber operations in Warren and Prescott, chip mills in Warren and Prescott, and the Cypress Bend Pulp and Paperboard Mill near McGehee. The resource department will also manage fiber procurement for a contract chipmill under construction near the Cypress Bend mill. #"The new structure will continue our tradition of proper forest management with considerations for the land, water and wildlife while meeting the Potlatch commitment to sustainable forests for generations to come," Jolley said. #"We have a team of highly professional and dedicated individuals in the resource department. Many are second or third generation foresters or wood products employees. This new organizational structure will work best to provide a framework for our staff in their management of our forests for the longterm." Forest management responsibilities are divided into three operating areas. Managers include Rob Loomis, east operations manager with responsibility for lands east of Warren; Bill Montogomery, central operations manager for lands west of Warren; and Duane Leamons, west operations area with responsibility for lands in the Prescott area. East operations area managers include Joe Huitt, Vick area; Dennis Gavin, Sumpter area; Joe Anders, Northeast area; and Ron Neely, Saline area. William Hines and Joe Bradford are forest technicians for the east operations area. Central operation area managers are Terry Traczewitz, Nevada County area; Steve Tompkins, Hempstead area; Barry Elmore, Clark area; Steve Roberson, Pike area; and Stan Brzeski, silviculture manager. Each area manager is responsible for the management of approximately 43,000 acres of timberland in their respective area. The procurement department includes Nick Koulianos, procurement and sales manager; Ben Garner, chip and fuel manager; Ernie Gibbs and Jim Cornelius, procurement superintendents; and Danny Beavert and Eric Lantz, area procurement represenatives. The procurement department is responsible for procuring logs and fiber for all four Potlatch manufaturing operations. The technical services department includes Jim Newberry, technical services manager; Gary Thornton, wildlife and land lease coordinator; French - Wynne, tree improvement and silviculture suprevisor; Paul Nace, GIS coordinator; and Nick Chappell, productivity-nutrition manager. Jimmie Dale Camp is the technician for technical services. Technical services provides resource personnel with technical assistance and information on contracting silvicultural treatments and computer services and is responsible for the management of the hunting lease program.
