Area Football Camp Grows During Its Six Year HistoryPublished Wednesday, July 17, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott's 6th Annual Southwest Arkansas Football Camp, held last week, had the largest enrollment since its inception in 1991. Coach Gary Segrest, of Lakeside High School in Hot Springs, and coach Eddie Jackson, put this idea together to promote football in the southwest corner of the state, and to give young football players a head start on fundamentals and skill work for their upcoming seasons. The idea has proven to be worth the effort with the enrollment multiplying five times in six years, and with other coaches checking into the details and format of this camp with plans to start others in different parts of the state. This year's camp had young men from eight different schools. Jackson said he felt the camp had grown enough to split into a junior division, separate from the senior division and this would be done with the 1997 camp. For the first time, the campers and staff had to contend with rain and wet fields, which is all a part of the game of football. The weather did knock out some of the punt, pass and kick contests on the last day. We will print a list of awards presented to various campers in next week's paper.
