Ned PurtlePublished Wednesday, July 17, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneNed Purtle, 85, of Hope passed away July 11, 1996, in Hope. He was born April 24, 1911, in Prescott, to Sid and Ollie Hale Purtle. A pioneer in the cattle business, he established a registered Hereford herd in 1927 with his brother, Homer Purtle. This herd is still in operation making it the oldest purebred herd of beef cattle in Arkansas. He was one of the founders of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, a former board member of Arkansas Farm Bureau, president of the First Rural Telephone Cooperative in Arkansas, a member of the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame, a Kiawian and a longtime member and teacher of the men's Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Hope. Survivirs include his wife, Pauline Ray Purtle of Hope; a son, Ned Ray Purtle of Hope; a sister; Margaret White of Prescott; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Services were Saturday, July 13, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel in Hope. Burial was in Memory Gardens in Hope by Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Hope.
