Bluff City Homemakers MeetPublished Wednesday, July 17, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Bluff City Helping Hands Extension Club met Thursday, July 11, with 18 members attending. Marquerite Tomlin informed members of the County Fair dates, which are September 17-21, and discussed the theme and rules to keep in mind when entering aricles and participating in other events. She mentioned the volunteer program at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Anyone willing to help by volunteering, there are many things they can do; mending garments, replacing missing buttons, etc. Many residents have few or no relatives to help with these things and this much needed help by anyone would be appreciated. There have been a lot of planning and work toward having a successful Chicken and Egg Festival this year and a large variety of events planned. So, if you can find time to attend some of them it will be a pleasant outing. Roll call was answered by everyone telling their favorite fruit. Watermelon seemed to top the list. Hostesses Mary Summers, Ruth Bumpass and Laverne Friday served dinner to the group with sveral delicious varieties of food, drinks and desserts. One was a cake made in the shape of Arkansas. They also presented the program on #"Arkansas." It was so interesting and imformative that members decided o plan a trip together soon. Next month each member is to tell what town they wish to visit and why. Hopefully, the club can agree on one and go before the weather gets too cold. Secret pal gifts were given and shown while some members brought hand crafts they had made at home for members to view. Most of the members rushed to and from the meeting because they're busy processing vegetables from their gardens and still had much work awaiting them. The attendance was good, because the members are willing to drop their work and join their friends and neighbors to enjoy the fellowship while learning of current events and latest information supplied from the University of Arkansas Extension Service.
