Football Facts

Published Wednesday, July 24, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Editor's note: This is the seventh of a 12-part series of a column by Prescott High School football coach Eddie Jackson. The articles will deal with information on the upcoming football season as well as a look back at some facts and stats about Curley Wolf football from the last 25 years. These statistics came from the post-season booklet prepared for each player.

COMING EVENTS: Summer weight days: July 23, 25, 30, Aug. 1, 6 and 8. Sunday, All-Stars report to camp. Courtney Bryant is scheduled to represent the Curley Wolves. July 31 and Aug. 2, ANSCA Clinic. Friday, Aug. 2, physicals with Dr. Vermont -- All-Star football game.

COACH'S CORNER: Prescott hosted week 4 of the "Air it out" passing league. No games will be played this week, but plans are being worked out for Prescott to host a tournament on Aug. 5 and 7. I had the opportunity to visit the Dallas Cowboys' training camp last week and will be in camp with the West All-Stars next week. This makes me ever so anxious to meet with the '96 Curley Wolves the first week in August. We will open our August camp on Aug. 12+.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jamie Williams, lb/ol, was hampered by shoulder injuries as a junior, but has worked hard in our strength program, as hopefully he will be stronger his senior year. Rodney Hall, ol/dl, gained valuable experience last year and will be counted on a great deal as a senior lineman.

'96 SCHEDULE, SCOUT REPORT: Week No. 5 will find a rematch of last December as the Wolves travel to Scrapville. The Nashville squad returns the state's leading passing duo of McBride to Washington, plus they will have a stronger running game. The Scraps are predicted to be the AA State Champs, but it could be a battle at Nashville on Oct 4th.

WORD OF THE WEEK: Compete -- Strive or contend with another.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Compete, you only fail when you stop trying. If you can look in the mirror and truly believe that you have given 100 percent then you can feel proud. Will the Wolves compete on Oct. 4th?
