Robert H. Griffin, owner of the H&R Block franchise in Prescott, was among more than 800 francchise owners and representatives attending the company's first H&R Block Franchise Convention in Kansas City, Mo., July 9-12.

Held at the Kansas City Convention Center, the national convention focused on such issues as computer automation and electronic filing of tax returns, marketing, new products and services, and tax reform. Kansas City Mayor Emanuel Cleaver proclaimed H&R Block week in Kansas City, home of the company's world headquarters.

"Approximately half of our more than 8,000 U.S. locations are franchised offices, so these owners play a significant role in the growth of our business," Henry W. Block, chairman of the board of directors, said. Block also addressed the convention. "These offices each prepare an average of 1,200 tax returns each year."

Founded in 1955, H&R Block is a diversified company offering tax and financial services.
