Three Arrested For DrugsPublished Wednesday, July 24, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThree Prescott men have been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. These charges stem from an incident occurring Tuesday, July 16, when the Nevada County Sheriff's Office received word three people were planning to bring crack cocaine to Prescott from Hope. Officers with the NCSO and Prescott Police Department set up at Interstate 30 at both exits, as well as on Highway 67 to watch for the trio. The suspects, Charles Tolliver, 43, Dale Gulley, 43, and Jerry Pace, 39, were seen coming down Highway 67 by PPD Chief Willie Latin. While following the suspect, who were in a 1980 Chevrolet pickup, Latin noticed suspicious activity and pulled them over at East 2nd and Laurel. Latin was assisted by Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the PPD and NCSO, and NCSO Chief Deputy Morris Vines at the scene, and called for the NCSO K-9 unit. Nevada County Sheriff Harold Vines found a large "rock" of a suspicious substance in the grass nearby the vehicle. When K-9 officer Wayne Kisselburg and Narco arrived, the dog "hit" on the substance and inside the truck. The trio were placed under arrest, charged with possession of a controlled substance, namely crack cocaine, with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. Possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine is a class Y felony, carrying a sentence of 10 to 40 years in prison or life. Tolliver and Gulley are being held in the Nevada County jail without bond, as they were out on bond for a similar offense at the time of the arrest. Pace was released on a $5,000 bond. Other officers assisting in the arrest were PPD officer Wayne Sorrels, assistant PPD chief Jim Stewart and deputy Jason Arrington. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
