Redland -- Larue GriffinPublished Wednesday, July 24, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneNevada County lost one of its best when Larue Griffin died Saturday, July 20. Griffin wrote the Redland News for the Nevada News, until it closed, and then provided news from the Redland Community to the Nevada County Picayune until she was confined in a nursing home. She was a correspondent for the Redland Community for more than 50 years, receiving a "Golden 50 Award" from the Arkansas Press Association for her efforts. Her duties as correspondent have been taken over by her daughter, Hazel Meeks. In addition, Griffin was a member of the Redland Extension Homemakers Club, receiving a 65-year pin for her years of service in the organization.
