The Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute commodity foods at the Gurdon Senior Adult Center on September 8 (today) from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Persons meeting the income guidelines may receive commodity foods. The center is at 410 E. Main in Gurdon.


A homecoming will be held at the East Whelen Baptist Church Sunday, Sept. 12.

The public is invited to attend and join in a day of worship with Bro. Burton Perry giving a brief history of the church at 10 a.m.

Services will follow, starting at 11 a.m. with a potluck lunch and afternoon of gospel singing rounding out the day's festivities.


Arkansas Rehabilitation Services will be in Gurdon September 16 and 30 at the Gurdon Municipal Building from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. New applicants are welcome. Call 353-2514 for an appointment or for more information.


1999 Arkansas Senior Olympic Games will be held September 10-19. Athletes age 49 and older can participate in activities from cycling to Scrabble. Medals or ribbons are awarded to winners in all divisions. For more information call Gail Ezelle at 1-800-720-7276.


Clark County Adult Education offers day classes Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and night classes Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. For more information, call 870-353-4555.


Gurdon Head Start is taking applications now for the 1999-2000 school year. Children must be three by September 15. Go by 410 East Main or call 353-6616. Open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.


The parenting education grant recently awarded to the Hours of Joy Child Care, 501 East Main, will provide parenting classes once a week at no charge to parents. For a schedule, parents can call 353-4672 or 353-4329. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, with first and third week of each month meeting at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., second and third meeting at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.


Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.


Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
