Kirby Organ Goes To OBUPublished Wednesday, July 24, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesA Baldwin organ from the estate of Mrs. Flo S. Kirby of Gurdon has been donated by her children to Ouachita Baptist University, according to Dr. Charles Wright, dean of the Jones School of Fine Arts at Ouachita. "We are very grateful to Mrs. Kirby's children, Shari and Joe, for the gift of this beautiful organ for use in Berry Chapel," Wright said. "It will serve as a continuing memorial to Mrs. Kirby, her love for music and for Ouachita." Mrs. Kirby was director of music at the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon for many years. "Her career as a musician and teacher of music spanned more than 60 years and three generations of students, many of whom continued their training in music at Ouachita and went on to careers in music, music ministry and education," Wright said.
