Youth Attend Camp

Published Wednesday, July 31, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

The Clark County 4-H youth recently attended the 1996 Junior Camp at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center. The workshops were "Can You Canoe?", "Earthy Ectotherms", "4-H Critter Challenge", and "T-Shirt Mania". 4-H'ers learned to canoe in the "Can You Canoe?" workshop. The lake at the 4-H Center was a great place to practice what they had learned. The race after one workshop was won by Laura Phelan and Molly McGear. The "Earthy Ectotherms" was a nature walk and was enjoyed by all. The "4-H Critter Challenge" was a mini-introduction to livestock judging. Many 4-H'er go on to judge livestock on the State level. The final workshop, "T-Shirt Mania", was a tie-dye/bleaching workshop. 4-H'ers learned how to roll and band the shirts for that 1960's tie-die look. The bleaching was fun also. The 4-H'ers put stencils on their camp shirts and sprayed bleach over the surface. This would leave the stencil area darker than the rest.

Anyone interested in joining a 4-H club should contact the local County Extension Office at 246-2281.
