Camp Opens August 6Published Wednesday, July 31, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneIn order to better prepare the 1996 Wolves for a short week of daily doubles, the PHS footall coaches will open the August camp a few days early. The Wolves will report on Tuesday, August 6, at 9:30 a.m. for three days of orientation, weights, tests and equipment issue. For the convenience of athletes who may not be through with summer jobs or family trips, the coaches will hold a second session if necessary, but players will need to make prior arrangements. These workouts will be without helmets and will be limited in intensity except for the testing events. Practice with helmets will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 12. Contact work in full pads will begin on Thursday, August 15. "With classes beginning on August 19, the Wolves will not have but one week of two-a-days," coach Eddie Jackson said, "so we hope to get a head start with this three day mini-camp." From August 6 until the kick-off at Ashdown there are 32 calendar days, so we are labeling these first three days as a 32-day camp. Jackson said the staff was not very impressed with the numbers working out in the summer program. He mentioned there were over 50 prospects in May, but no more than 20 have reported at any session. The coaches feel an early season "attitude adjustment" may be necessary for some players and this will be done during this three-day period so the players can be ready to go on August 12.
