Football FactsPublished Wednesday, July 31, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneEditor's note: This is the eighth of a 12-part series of a column by Prescott High School football coach Eddie Jackson. The articles will deal with information on the upcoming football season as well as a look back at some facts and stats about Curley Wolf football from the last 25 years. These statistics came from the post-season booklet prepared for each player. COMING EVENTS: Thursday, Aug. 1, weight workout. Friday, Aug. 2, physicals at Dr. Vermont's office; East-West All Star game at the University of Central Arkansas. Aug. 6-8, Wolves one-a-day practices start. Practices will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. COACH'S CORNER: The Wolves' football staff will open a mini-camp 32 days before we kick off at Ashdown. (See related article.) At the conclusion of the AHSCA coaches clinic on Friday, the West All-Stars will take on the East All-Stars at UCA's Estes Stadium in Conway. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Terrell Burton, ol/dl, had a great junior year and will be counted on a great deal to anchor the middle of the Wolfgant "D" line as well as help the movin' maroon. He also will help with the placekicking duties. Billy Todd, wr/db, got some valuable experience last season and had a chance to contribute as a senior. '96 SCHEDULE, SCOUT REPORT: In game 6, the Wolves return home to take on a very talented DeQueen team. The Leopards have had two outstanding junior high teams to form the nucleus of a team that may be the most talented in 7AA. With a coaching change, this team will be more wide open and they will definitely hvae the size, speed and strength to play any brand of football they choose. Look for the Leopards to be a big factor in the league race. WORD OF THE WEEK: Confidence -- self assurance. THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Hard work breeds confidence. When you reach a certain level there will be no anxiety and no apprehension. Will the Wolves play with confidence on Oct. 11? Lee has also received many offers from area coaches to come work on their fields. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
