Drug Bust Is Made On I-30

A New Hampshire man will be spending more time in Arkansas than he planned.

According to Tim Land, a trooper with the Arkansas State Police, Jeremiah J. Lyons, 32, of New Boston, NH, was traveling east on Interstate 30 when he was stopped for speeding at the 42 mile marker around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

At the time of the stop, Lyons acted nervous, making Land suspicious. In addition, the trooper could see rolling papers in his pocket and detected an odor he believed to be marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Land said he noticed Lyons "hunched over" attempting to either hide something under the front seat or get something from under the seat as he approached the car, an older Monte Carlo, a second time.

When he removed Lyons from the vehicle and handcuffed him, Land found about two ounces of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana under the seat.

He then placed Lyons under arrest and called for the Nevada County Sheriff's Office drug dog, Narco.

When Narco and K-9 officer Wayne Kisselburg arrived, about 10 pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana was found in a double-bagged grocery sack. Inside the grocery sacks were plastic resealable bags containing about eight ounces each of the substance.

In addition, a further search of the vehicle turned up "roach clips", a timer and scales.

Lyons was charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with intent to deliver, a class B felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class C felony.

He is currently being held in the Nevada County Jail.
