Former Picayune Owner, Local Businessman DiesPublished Wednesday, July 31, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneLarry Wahlquist, former owner of the Nevada County Picayune, died Wednesday, July 24, in Jacksonville, Fla. He was the owner of Wahlquist Management Corp., and a former State Farm Insurance agent in Nevada County. Additionally, Wahlquist owned and operated Winman Furniture Stores in Hope, Arkadelphia, Texarkana and Prescott. He was also a former mayor of Prescott and a city councilman. The Wahlquist family purchased the Picayune in 1953, with Larry being named the editor of it along with the Pike County Courier in Murfreesboro. He sold the paper to Ragsdale Printing Co., Inc. in 1981. The Pike County paper is now the Murfreesboro Diamond and is operated by Graves Publishing of Nashville. Wahlquist was buried in the DeAnn Cemetery Saturday morning. He had made his home in Nashville, Tenn. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
