Football Camp Opens For WolvesPublished Wednesday, August 7, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneFootball camp for the Prescott Curley Wolves is open, as the team begins its quest to repeat as conference state AA champs. The Wolves open with a 32-day mini-camp. This is not a 32-day camp, but a three-day session of squad meetings, weight workouts, practice orientations along with skill and conditioning tests, 32-days before the season opens Sept. 6. All potential Wolves are expected to attend this camp, but the coaches will have alternate sessions for those who make special arrangements in advance. "Daily Doubles", or two-a-day workouts, will begin sooner because of an earlier starting date for classes and a later date for practices with helmets. Most area schools, coach Eddie Jackson said, will only have one week of two-a-day practices. He said this schedule favors the eighth and ninth grade teams because their workouts start the first day of school, Aug. 19. Once classes have begun, he said, the Wolves will have some sessions during fourth period (1:30-3:30 p.m.) and come back for night practices later on. The football coaches would like to meet with parents of the players in grades 8-12. This meeting has tentatively been set for Aug. 12. Aug. 16 has been slated as the annual Wolves retreat date to DeGray. The Wolves will enjoy a day on the lake, as well as squad leadership notes in preparation for the 1996 season. The annual Maroon/White game will be held at the end of the "daily doubles," sometime near Aug. 23. This, Jackson said, will give the coaches a chance to look at all the players in a scrimmage situation. He said there will be a night practice before the Maroon/White game, with a "third down" scrimmage slated. This will be held in conjunction with a "meet the Cubs night. In order to polish up several things and correct any mistakes, the Wolves will hit the road for Hot Springs to tangle with Lakeside in a pre-season scrimmage game on Aug. 30. Normally, a three-day Wolves Youth Camp is held in late June. However, the coaches decided to move the camp closer to the team'sseason. Therefore, it will be held Saturday mornings after classes start. Players entering grades four through seven will get more information on the camp. Tentative dates for the session are Aug. 24, 31 and Sept. 7. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
